 - Phodong Monastery belongs to the Kagyupa Sect in Buddhism, is a popular attraction and one of a major Monastery in Sikkim

- It is built in 1740 AD, founded by the fourth king of Sikkim, Gyurmed Namgyal of Kagyupa Sect stands at 4500 feet above sea level

- The Monastery is well adorned with the paintings, murals and holy scriptures from ancient times

- This Monastery is located at 39 kms from Gangtok
