Description:
Contemporary dance is an expressive dance that combines elements of several dance forms including modern, jazz, lyrical and classical ballet. Contemporary dancers strive to connect the mind and the body through fluid dance movements.
Ballet is a theatrical art form that uses dance, music, and scenery to convey a story, theme, or atmosphere.
The given activity helped the students to learn, enjoy and understand the concepts of science by applying it in real life.
• The students read the chapter on their own as a first glance.
• The class was divided into groups and were given one law of motion and few other terms to study upon.
• Within groups the students shared their understanding of terms/laws in the chapter with examples.
• Each group was then given a chance to express their understanding of the concept, giving more examples similar to the ones given in the chapter.
• The groups also demonstrated situations in which the three laws of motion/friction applied.
• The facilitator intervened or guided the class wherever needed to bring the clarity of concept.
• The students were motivated to write their understanding of concepts in the form of a song combined with music.
• The dance teacher helped the students to express their understanding of the concept through contemporary dance style (which they had learnt in their Performing Art class) with few moves of ballet.
• The students recorded and sent their video which was compiled by the team inhouse.
Variations possible: Similar activity can be done with the concept of Trigonometry, Periodic table, Verbs and Phrasal verbs for the students of Grade 9 and Grade 10 to make the concept easy and enjoyable.
